The 2024–2025 research seminar History of Photography focused on a free exploration of the photographic collection of the Royal Museums of Art and History (Jubelpark), Brussels. Based on the images published online on Carmentis, the official catalog of the RMAH, the students aimed to create two exhibitions: one virtual, with the help of the OMEKA S tool, and the other physical, at the Vandenhove studio.

The content presented here was created both individually and in pairs, but the entire site was conceived as a collective adventure. The ten students involved here demonstrate their ability to conduct academic research on heritage objects, to popularize scientific knowledge, and also to respond sensitively to images. Photographic reproductions and sound recordings invite a historical and poetic stroll through the early developments of the photographic medium.

• A pop-up exhibition will take place at the Vandenhove inter-faculty Study Center, Ghent University, Roziee 1, 9000 Gent. 

It will interpret the work carried out based on the photographic collection of the RMAH. The dialectic between digital space and physical space is thus at the heart of the seminar, allowing for an exploration of both the constraints and possibilities of these two formats.
